I Will Be Your Bloom [Episode 4] (Japanese Drama 2022)

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Summary of Episode 4:

In this episode of "I Will be Your Bloom", the male lead plans on researching and finding inspiration to write a love song. The female lead decides to help him by “agreeing” to go on a date. The other boys tag along. He tries to tell her something, but doesn’t express it properly. She misunderstands, remembers unpleasant past experiences and becomes momentarily affected. In the following days when she's away to help her sister, he realises that he misses her presence. He has things he wants to tell her so badly that he runs to look for her. He manages to clear the misunderstanding and he gets inspired to write his song.

Thoughts:

  • I can’t read the female lead’s emotions with regards to his proposal to go on a date. Overall, she doesn’t seem to reject the idea at all. Does she actually want to go on the date with him? The other boys seem so supportive and it’s almost like they already know that he likes her though I think it's really just them having fun teasing him.

  • It’s super heartwarming to know that your words/actions meant something to someone. A simple encouragement from her gave him the courage to pursue his dreams and he has always held on to those memories to find strength during the tough times! I teared up hearing Naruse tell her that. Side note: Naruse's good boy acting is a little cringe for me, unfortunately.

  • Did y'all notice the foreshadowing in the show? In previous episodes, her sister’s fiancé was busy with his phone when replying her. Turned out that he had been cheating on her. In this episode, Nao is upset that the male lead cares a lot about the female lead. I’m guessing she might do something bad to the female lead in later episodes.

  • Is the director trying different filming techniques? Idk man. I quite like the scene when the male lead was running down the stairs and the camera was following him at first from the front and then behind him. I can imagine this kind of scene in a zombie apocalypse show hahaha!

  • Imo, the plot in this episode really emphasised that the male lead is still young and there’s an age gap between the female lead and the 8loom boys. “I hadn’t become the version of me I wanted you to see yet” is such a typical thing to hear from a younger dude? Him telling her whatever’s on his mind and then asking for a hug to make up was such a precious scene too.
